During the creation of Club Toulouse in 2020, Roman Van Houtven and Marieke Dermul established early onwards that they wanted to tackle gender-based questions in their creation. The notion of creating androgynous entities who –through their journey in the piece- could try on different elements of what our heteronormative society refers to as male or female. Experimenting and playing with those notions. And by doing so, offering the intended young audience a variety of possibilities through which they can express themselves. Kopergietery turned out to be the dream partner in crime for this endeavour. Their creativity and encouragement to think and create outside of the box have proven to be of vital importance. Since the fall of 2021, Gytha Parmentier - a Ghent-based actress, dancer and maker - plays the role of Marieke.
