Lison Ferné

is an illustrator, painter and comic artist.

She is inspired by pop culture ( manga, anime, pop music), mythology, and fairy tales from around the world, but also by gender and race studies, ecology, and feminism. In her comics and illustrations, she uses metaphorical language to speak about these political subjects rather than confronting the reader directly or doing pedagogical art.

In her first comic “La Déesse Requin” (“The Shark Goddess”) published in January 2020, Lison is using animal-human transfiguration to explore themes like the impact of humans on the environment.

Her stories are often about a female protagonist and her place in the world and she likes to ground them in fantasy universes, inspired by the likes of Hayao Miyazaki or fantasy authors like Robin Hobb.

Lison is also interested in the female gaze on male bodies as both a means of female empowerment and a representation tool. She realized a series of male mermaids in July 2020 and is currently working on other illustration projects exploring this theme.

Lison Ferné loves to use several techniques in her art, as well as experiment with new ones. The main technique she uses would be Indian ink and pen (black and white), a technique very efficient for dynamic drawings and comics. She also likes to paint with color ink, especially for painting portraits.
