Pau.line

Pau.line is a lesbian artist who has always drawn and been surrounded by an artistic and creative atmosphere. She lives in Liège and is from the Belgian Ardennes. She graduated in communication, performing arts, as well as gender studies from the University of Liège.

During COVID-19, the first confinement allowed her to take the time and find her path towards creation and to focus on drawing more intensely. Her medium: unique handmade postcards. Since then, her artistic work has also consisted of ink drawings and linocuts.

The "." in Pau.line’s artistic alias came to be a bit by chance and then finally became obvious to her: “When I was looking for an artistic identity, it was my lover who suggested the name "Pau.line" to me. Not only does my first name appear in full, but it includes the idea of "line" - many of my drawings take shape with pen lines. It also seemed relevant and interesting to me in questioning gender and facilitating questioning in general.”

Pau.line recently set up a small project which matured at home during the second confinement, which she calls "a postal surprise". It consists of an envelope containing a drawing, an extract of texts and small things made by her hands - received directly in one’s letterbox.

This idea arose from the current importance of newsletters. She wanted to emphasize the joy of receiving physical mail in this digital world. You can order your personalized postal surprise at Pau.line’s webshop.

Pau.line describes her universe as encompassing “a strong sensitivity, a lot of gentleness, daydreaming, nature, flowers, and lesbian love.” Her inspiration comes mostly from nature and femininity. For her drawings, she finds inspiration in the contrast between white and black. “I am surrounded by light and colors on a daily basis but in my drawings, I have difficulty associating colors. I like the strength of black and white, and sometimes a little bit of color.”
