(ENG) Kis’ Keya is an artist, Afroqueer and Afro-feminist based in Belgium.
She started painting at a young age. Over time, she diversified her means of expression in order to adapt her art to subjects that were dear to her heart, or to certain sensibilities she wished to convey to the public.
“I consider myself to be a socially engaged artist. Art is the language I use to take a stand in society; to fight against discrimination (sexism, racism, homophobia, etc.) and to get messages across. "
One of the main driving forces behind her work is “to create” visibility for everyone on screen. In her eyes, the representation of everyone is a necessity for society.
Kis’ Keya has put on three theater shows that were performed in Brussels, Montreal, and Ouagadougou. She has directed three medium-length fiction films, before directing the series "Extranostro". With the three episodes of the pilot, she participated in several debates and conferences on the importance of diversity in series and in cinema.
" It matters to me to act. My way of doing things is to create paintings, put on shows, make films." — K '
Kis’ work speaks for itself and expresses a wide range of imagery, feeling, and subject matter. In a truly multi-dimensional way, Kis creates paintings and sculptures, films, and shows us the inner workings of her world through poetry and spoken word. She brings life and color to characters on the screen through complex and engaging narratives.
"Des corps qui plongent dans la matière, des formes qui se font ombres.
Vague apparence de réalité, trace d'existence,
pensée du temps qui passe, esprit qui pleure…
Traces du vent, de ce qui a été,
de ce qui sera, peut-être pas, jamais...
"In my work of painter and sculptor, I am exploring the theme of the femininity of forms, the female body...seeking to find the soul."
"I chose to use fiction because with characters we have identification or empathy. Which is a way that I find effective, to convey direct or less direct messages and to change mentalities." — K'

Honor&Respect is an art exposition birthed out of the 'Journeying into the erotic' artist residency. During this residency, 7 artists were commissioned to meditate on the speech 'Uses of the erotic, the erotic as power' by our great ancestor Audre Lorde. This powerful speech forms the basis of this art exposition. Honor&Respect is a silent revolution advocating for a shift in our culture. To restore honor and respect for the divine feminine. It is a call to de-objectify black femininity. To remove it out of the hypersexual lens. The exhibition 'Honor & Respect' advocates that we see sexuality as merely a part of someone's being.
As a beautiful and inexhaustible source of creativity, which can make black women, femmes and non-binary folk feel empowered. For it not to be a quality by which one is reduced or suppressed. With this exhibition, we acknowledge that femininity can come in many different bodies. Kuchukua Hatua understands that one must not be a cisgender woman to hold space for the feminine energy within themselves. Kuchukua Hatua finds the inclusion of LGTBQIA+ in this project self-explanatory.
