Leggy

“Leggy is a weirdo creature, traveling in punk and alternative universe. Dancer and actress from past formation. I love to mix different arts in a multidisciplinary state of mind. I started to do drag a few years ago and am still willing to discover new art forms and to disturb expectations. Kinda vulgar sometimes, but always kind and smiling, the bitch is a lipsync assassin (auto consécration but I swear I'm humble).”

What inspires your work and what is your creative process?

“My work is inspired both by queer and punk icons (such as Gaga, Patti Smith, or Patriarchy) and of course by my closest friends working as Queens or again as fashion designers. But I usually don't refer directly to references and prefer creating my own universe.”

What about Drag and performing as a medium speaks to you? How did you get your start in it?

“Drag as a medium for me is the opportunity to share with an audience my art forms in a more free set. As a dancer or actor, I feel sometimes restrained within the institution's expectations. As a drag artist, I feel the opportunity to explore my art while embracing my inner queerness. As a theme, I realized I like speaking about love. But not only a love story, but also heartbreaking and suffering because of love. Some of my performances are like a physical catharsis of past sufferings.”

Did you have any queer role models? If so, who?

“So my models above the ones I said before might be Grace Jones, Bjork, Diam's, Iris van Herpen ... But as mentioned before I don't usually work while referencing directly to icons. I guess we are missing queer models in our society, so I learned to be my own model.”

What advice would you have to queer artists beginning their journeys?

“As advice, I would say anyone to continue to follow their own dreams without listening to any haters' comments. If you love what you are doing, go on honey.”

Upcoming events

“My next events are about my dance research. On October the 13th in HetBos (Antwerp) and on October the 28th in Atelier210 (Brussels). Aside from that, I am currently back from holiday and willing to come back onstage with new drag gigs I'm working on. Don't hesitate to contact me!”
